Afrikaanse hip hop vannie Kuila

August 12, 2008 in Die Yard by mulla

In 2006, a partnership between two producers, Clint Scholtz a.k.a Clebo formally from Atlantis and Jacques Noble a.k.a Jacque-G from Panorama, Robertson created Cape Awake Records. With the help of Sound and mastering engineer, Blaine Young, the label became a well known outlet for hip hop artist on the cape flats.

Cape Awake Records believes in creating “challenging yet adventurous” music which blends hip-hop with R&B. As such the music of the artists on this label relies very much on instrumentals which have led, in conjunction with other factors, to the stylistic criticism that artists on the label are not “remarkable in their distinctiveness as an index of locality.

Clebo and Jacque-G is currently in the process of mixing and mastering their first hip hop compilation album. The album took 7 months to record and became a big success story when well known artist like Delinquent, Charl, Dmus (from Ancient Men) and Jack Denovan (from Azanian Flames) joined them on the project.

The compilation cd was created as a marketing strategy for the Afrikaans hip hop genre. The album is set to drop on the 20th of September 2008. There will be 20 tracks on the album and will have two versions, one a radio edited version and the original.

The album launch will be in the form of a concert and all the artists on the cd are going to perform on the evening of the event.
